When Android asks for permission to create a VPN connection, select:
Allow
Tailscale uses Android's VPN interface to connect your phone or tablet to the private network.
3. Configure the Headscale Server
The M-WE network uses its own Headscale control server:
https://hs.m-we.org
In the Android Tailscale app:
- Open Tailscale.
- Open Settings.
- Select Accounts.
- Tap the ⋮ menu.
- Select Use an alternate server.
- Enter:
https://hs.m-we.org - Continue.
The app will now connect to the M-WE Headscale server.
4. Register the Device
After entering:
https://hs.m-we.org
Tailscale may open your web browser.
Follow the registration instructions displayed in the browser.
The device must be registered with the M-WE Headscale server before it can connect to the private network.
After registration is complete, return to the Tailscale app.
5. Connect
Return to the Tailscale app.
Enable the Tailscale connection.
If Android displays a VPN permission request, select:
Allow
When successfully connected, Tailscale should show:
Connected
Your device is now connected to the M-WE private network.
6. Use USA-Boston as Exit Node
After Tailscale is connected, configure the mobile device to use USA-Boston as the exit node.
Using an exit node routes the device's Internet traffic through the USA-Boston server.
Android
- Open Tailscale.
- Make sure Tailscale shows Connected.
- Open Exit node.
- Select:
USA-Boston - Make sure the Tailscale VPN remains connected.
Your Internet traffic should now go through the USA-Boston exit node.
7. Test the Connection
After selecting:
USA-Boston
open your web browser or the YouTube app.
Go to:
https://youtube.com
If YouTube opens normally, the Internet connection through Tailscale is working.
You can also open:
https://www.youtube.com
and play a video to confirm that Internet traffic is working correctly.
The expected setup is:
