Big Idea
Science fiction imagines possibilities involving science or technology. Distinguish invented devices from established facts.
Read: The Message Seed
On the station, Jun planted a message seed in a clear tray. The invented device grew a tiny screen instead of leaves. A sentence appeared: "Check the water pump." Jun wanted to know who had sent it. The station log showed that the seed was a warning from yesterday’s maintenance team. Its screen could grow only after receiving enough water, so the message itself tested the supply. Jun called the engineer. Before sleeping, she planted a second seed with a message for the next shift: "The pump is repaired. Keep checking."
