Read
Imagine a machine that sorts cards. It follows this rule: put red cards in Box A and blue cards in Box B. A green card arrives. The rule does not tell the machine what to do with it.
A complete set of instructions needs a way to handle unexpected input. The designer adds a third rule: put all other colors in Box C. Testing a red, blue, and green card checks three possible paths through the instructions. It is better to discover a missing rule during a test than after many cards have been sorted.
