Concept and Helping Material
Big Idea
Read for meaning. Identify the topic, connect details, and use evidence to answer questions.
Read
A photograph can show how a place looked in the past. Look for buildings, clothing, and objects. A label may give the date and place. Without a label, some details can be hard to explain.
A photograph records only what was inside the frame at one moment. It does not show everything happening nearby. A written account or another photograph may supply missing context. Readers should separate visible details from guesses about what people were thinking.
