The Plan to Kill Jesus
During the Passover week, Jesus taught people in the temple during the day and returned to Bethany each evening. Many people listened to Him, but the religious leaders became increasingly determined to stop Him.
The leaders met together and discussed how they could arrest Jesus without causing trouble among the crowds. They feared that many people supported Him.
At one point, they tried to trap Jesus with a question about paying taxes to the Roman government. Jesus asked to see a coin and pointed out Caesars image on it. He replied, "Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to God."
Meanwhile, Judas Iscariot became disappointed because Jesus was not establishing an earthly kingdom. Judas secretly agreed to help the religious leaders arrest Jesus. In return, they paid him thirty silver coins.
