The Good Samaritan
A religious teacher asked Jesus how people should love others. To answer, Jesus told a story about a man traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho. Along the way, robbers attacked him, stole his belongings, and left him badly injured beside the road.
A priest passed by and saw the wounded man, but he did not stop to help. Later, a Levite also saw him and continued on his journey. Neither offered assistance.
Then a Samaritan came by. Although Samaritans and Jews were often unfriendly toward each other, the Samaritan showed compassion. He cleaned the mans wounds, placed him on his donkey, and brought him to an inn.
The Samaritan paid the innkeeper to care for the injured man and promised to cover any additional expenses later. Jesus asked which traveler had acted like a true neighbor. The teacher answered that it was the one who showed mercy. Jesus told him to do the same.
