Jesus and the Four Friends
Jesus traveled from place to place teaching people about God's mercy and forgiveness. He explained that anyone who repented could receive forgiveness from God. One day, Jesus was speaking inside a crowded house in Capernaum. So many people had gathered that there was no room left, even near the door.
Four friends arrived carrying a man who could not walk. They wanted Jesus to help him, but they could not get through the crowd. Refusing to give up, they climbed onto the roof of the house. They carefully removed part of the roof and made an opening above where Jesus was teaching.
The four men lowered their friend down on his mat until he was right in front of Jesus. Seeing their faith, Jesus first told the man that his sins were forgiven. Then He told him to stand up, pick up his mat, and go home.
Immediately, the man stood up. He picked up the mat he had been lying on and walked out in front of everyone. The crowd was amazed and praised God for the miracle they had witnessed.
