Jesus Presented in the Temple of Jerusalem
Joseph and Mary took the baby Jesus to the Temple in Jerusalem to present Him to God. A devout man named Simeon had been promised by God that he would not die before seeing the Savior. Guided by the Holy Spirit, Simeon held Jesus in his arms and praised God, saying he could now depart in peace because he had witnessed the Messiah. He declared that Jesus would reveal God's way to all and bring glory to Israel.
Joseph and Mary were amazed by Simeons words. Simeon blessed them and told Mary that her child would bring joy to many, but also sorrow and suffering for others.
Anna, an elderly widow devoted to worship, also saw Jesus. She gave thanks to God and spoke about the redemption and deliverance that Jesus coming would bring to Jerusalem.
