Jeremiah and the Broken Pot
Jeremiah, the son of Hilkiah, was chosen by God to warn the people of Judaea and Jerusalem to worship God alone. By that time, many people were offering sacrifices to the idol Baal. Jeremiah admitted he did not know what to say, but God touched his mouth and placed His words there.
Following God's instructions, Jeremiah bought a large clay jar and took the people to the site of idol worship. There, he broke the jar to pieces, symbolizing that God would similarly punish the nation. Judaea would face famine, plundering, captivity, and the Babylonians would capture Jerusalem.
The priests and officials tried to kill Jeremiah, but a Cushite rescued him. Despite being imprisoned until the Babylonians captured Jerusalem and King Zedekiah, Jeremiah was treated with kindness by the conquerors.
