David and His Son, Absalom

David and His Son, Absalom

David became king of Israel when he was thirty years old. He captured Jerusalem and made it the capital of his kingdom. Under David's leadership, Israel became stronger and more prosperous. David loved God and regularly praised Him.

One day, David learned that Mephibosheth, the son of his dear friend Jonathan, was still alive. Wanting to show kindness to Jonathans family, David brought Mephibosheth to Jerusalem and restored the land that had belonged to Sauls family.

David's son Absalom became very popular among the people. Over time, Absalom grew ambitious and tried to take the kingdom away from his father. David left Jerusalem with his family and loyal followers while Absalom gathered an army against him.

A great battle took place between the two sides. David ordered his commanders to be gentle with Absalom and not harm him. During the battle, Absalom tried to escape on a mule, but his head became caught in the branches of a large oak tree. As he hung there helplessly, Joab, David's commander, killed him. When David heard the news, he was overwhelmed with grief and wept for his son.
