Jacob's Favourite Son, Joseph
Joseph was one of Jacob's youngest sons and was loved very much by his father. Jacob gave Joseph a special robe, which made Josephs older brothers jealous. Their jealousy grew even stronger when Joseph shared dreams that seemed to show he would one day be honored above them.
In one dream, Joseph saw bundles of grain gathered in a field. His brothers bundles bowed down to his bundle. In another dream, the sun, moon, and eleven stars bowed before him. His brothers became angry and hated him even more because of these dreams.
One day, Jacob sent Joseph to check on his brothers and their flocks. When Joseph arrived, his brothers seized him, took away his special robe, and threw him into an empty well. Later, a group of Ishmaelite merchants passed by on their way to Egypt. Josephs brothers sold him to the merchants.
To hide what they had done, the brothers dipped Josephs robe in goats blood and brought it to Jacob. Seeing the robe, Jacob believed that a wild animal had killed his beloved son, and he grieved deeply for Joseph.
