Jacob's Reunion with Esau
After many years away from home, Jacob returned with his wives, children, servants, and large herds of livestock. He was nervous about meeting his brother Esau because of the conflict that had happened between them in the past.
As Esau approached, Jacob showed humility by bowing to the ground seven times. Instead of being angry, Esau ran to meet Jacob, embraced him, and kissed him. The two brothers wept together and were happily reunited. Jacob's family and servants also bowed before Esau.
Jacob urged Esau to accept the gifts of animals he had sent ahead as a sign of peace. Although Esau first said he had enough, he eventually accepted Jacob's gift.
Because Jacob's children and animals needed to travel slowly, he explained that he could not move as quickly as Esau. Esau continued on to Seir, while Jacob traveled to Shechem in the land of Canaan.
