Rebekah's and Isaac's Twin Sons
Isaac and Rebekah had twin sons named Esau and Jacob. Esau was the older brother and was known for being very hairy, while Jacob was younger. As Isaac grew old, he wanted to give his special blessing to Esau before he died. He asked Esau to hunt an animal, prepare a meal, and then receive the blessing.
Rebekah preferred Jacob and wanted him to receive the blessing instead. After hearing Isaac's plan, she instructed Jacob to bring a young goat. She prepared a meal for Isaac and covered Jacob's hands and neck with goatskin so he would feel like Esau.
When Jacob came to Isaac, the elderly father touched the goatskin and believed he was speaking to Esau. Isaac then gave Jacob the blessing of prosperity, abundance, and leadership. Later, when Esau returned with food, both he and Isaac discovered that Jacob had received the blessing.
Esau was deeply upset and begged for a blessing as well. Although Isaac could not take back the blessing already given to Jacob, he told Esau that one day he would break free from serving his brother.
