Abrams Birth and Childhood
Nimrod was a powerful ruler and hunter who became king in Babylon, located in the land of Shinar. During that time, many people, including Terah and Nimrod, worshiped idols and the sun instead of the true God.
According to the story, wise men warned Nimrod that a child would soon be born who would one day challenge his rule. Fearing this prophecy, Nimrod ordered the death of newborn babies. Around that same time, Abram was born to Terah. To protect his son, Terah used another baby as a substitute, and Abram was secretly hidden away.
Abram spent his early years in a cave with his mother and a nurse. When he was old enough to leave, he observed the sun, moon, and stars. He realized that something greater than these heavenly bodies must have created them. Abram came to believe in the one true God.
Later, at about ten years old, Abram went to live with Noah and Shem. There he learned more about God and His ways, growing in wisdom and faith.
