The Crown of Thorns and the Crucifixion

The Crown of Thorns and the Crucifixion

Jesus was handed over to Roman soldiers and brutally mistreated. They mocked Him by placing a crown of thorns on His head and dressing Him in a purple robe before striking and insulting Him.

Weakened from the suffering, Jesus was forced to carry His cross, but Simon of Cyrene was ordered to help carry it. Jesus was led to Golgotha, where He was crucified between two criminals.

Above Him was a sign that read “King of the Jews.” Even while suffering, Jesus prayed for those who hurt Him, asking God to forgive them.

As He hung on the cross, darkness covered the land. Jesus spoke His final words, declaring that His mission was finished, and then gave up His life.
