Peter Denies Knowing Jesus Three Times

Peter Denies Knowing Jesus Three Times

After Jesus was arrested, Peter and John followed Him to the courtyard of the high priest. Peter stayed outside near the fire while Jesus was being questioned.

A servant girl recognized Peter and asked if he was one of Jesus’ disciples. Peter denied it. Later, others also questioned him, and each time Peter insisted he did not know Jesus.

After the third denial, a rooster crowed. Peter suddenly remembered Jesus’ prediction that he would deny Him three times before morning. When Jesus turned and looked at him, Peter felt deep sorrow and went away weeping bitterly.
