When Water Became Wine
Jesus and His disciples were invited to a wedding celebration in the village of Cana. During the feast, a problem arose when the family hosting the wedding ran out of wine. Mary learned about the problem and asked Jesus to help so the family would not be embarrassed in front of their guests.
Jesus told Mary that He would act at the proper time. Mary instructed the servants to do whatever Jesus said. Nearby stood several large stone jars that were normally used for ceremonial washing. Jesus told the servants to fill them with water.
After the jars were filled, Jesus instructed the servants to take some of the water to the master of the banquet. When he tasted it, the water had become excellent wine. He praised the bridegroom, saying that most people serve the best wine first, but this celebration had saved the best wine until the end.
Jesus' disciples witnessed the miracle and were amazed. This sign helped them understand more clearly that Jesus had God's power and would bring joy, blessing, and hope wherever He went.
