The Twelve Disciples of Jesus
Jesus knew the time had come to teach people about God's Kingdom. Instead of announcing Himself as king, He showed God's love, mercy, and power through His actions. Jesus prayed and asked God to guide Him in choosing helpers for His mission.
One day, while walking beside the Sea of Galilee, Jesus saw two fishermen, Andrew and Simon Peter. He invited them to follow Him. They immediately left their fishing nets and joined Him. Soon afterward, Jesus called two more fishermen, James and John. They left their boat and followed Jesus as well.
Jesus continued selecting followers from many different backgrounds. Some were fishermen, one was a tax collector named Matthew, and another was Simon the Zealot. These twelve men became Jesus special disciples, also called apostles. They traveled with Him, learned from Him, and helped spread God's message.
The twelve apostles were Peter, Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew (Nathanael), Matthew, Thomas, James the Younger, Simon the Zealot, Judas (Thaddaeus), and Judas Iscariot.
