The Birth of the Saviour
Joseph was looking forward to marrying Mary, but when he learned that she was expecting a child, he became troubled. Not wanting to shame her publicly, he decided to end their engagement quietly.
That night, God sent an angel to Joseph in a dream. The angel explained that Marys child had been conceived by the Holy Spirit. Joseph was told not to be afraid to marry Mary and to name the child Jesus, which means "the Lord saves." The angel also revealed that Jesus would be God's promised King and Savior.
Joseph obeyed God's message and married Mary. Later, because of a Roman census, Joseph and Mary traveled to Bethlehem to register their names. When they arrived, the town was crowded and there was no room available at the inn.
A kind person offered them shelter in a cave used for animals. There, Jesus was born. Mary wrapped Him in strips of cloth and laid Him in a manger. Though born in humble surroundings, Jesus was the long-awaited Savior promised by God.
