Ezekiel
After Jerusalem was captured by King Nebuchadnezzar, many people were taken to Babylon, including Ezekiel, who had served as a priest in God's temple. While living in exile, Ezekiel received visions and messages from God. God instructed him to warn the people to stop worshiping idols and return to faithful obedience.
To help people understand God's message, Ezekiel acted out dramatic signs. He drew a picture of Jerusalem on a large brick and built a miniature army around it. This represented the coming siege of the city. He also prepared carefully measured portions of food to show that the people in Jerusalem would face severe shortages.
Later, Ezekiel shaved off all his hair and divided it into three equal parts. One part he burned in a fire, another he cut into pieces with a sword, and the last he scattered into the wind. Then he carefully wrapped a few strands in his cloak. Through this sign, God showed that many people would die, some would be scattered among the nations, but a small remnant would be protected and eventually restored.
