Daniel in the Lions Den

Daniel in the Lions Den

King Darius ruled a vast kingdom with many provinces and governors. Daniel was one of his most trusted advisors. The other officials grew jealous of Daniel's wisdom and influence. They discovered that Daniel prayed to God three times a day, facing Jerusalems temple.

To trap him, the officials persuaded Darius to pass a law: for the next thirty days, anyone who prayed to any god or man other than the king would be thrown into a den of lions. Daniel remained faithful and continued to pray to God.

When his enemies saw Daniel praying, they reported it to the king. Darius was distressed because he valued Daniel, but the law could not be changed. Daniel was thrown into the lions den. The king spent a sleepless night, praying for Daniel's safety.

In the morning, Darius rushed to the den. To his joy, Daniel was unharmed. God had sent an angel to protect him. The king ordered Daniel to be lifted out and had his accusers thrown into the den, where the lions overpowered them. Darius decreed that all should respect the God of Daniel.
