David and Goliath

David and Goliath

After God rejected Saul as king, Samuel traveled to Bethlehem and visited Jesses family. There, God chose Jesses youngest son, David, and Samuel anointed him as the future king of Israel. David later came to Sauls court and played the harp, helping calm the troubled king.

At that time, the Philistines were at war with Israel. A giant warrior named Goliath challenged the Israelites every day. He demanded a single combat match, saying that whichever side lost the fight would serve the other. The Israelites were terrified because Goliath was much larger and stronger than any of their soldiers.

David came to the battlefield to bring supplies to his older brothers. When he heard Goliaths challenge, he trusted that God would help him. Although Saul doubted that David could win, David convinced him and chose to fight using only a sling and five smooth stones.

As Goliath approached, David placed a stone in his sling and launched it. The stone struck Goliath in the forehead, causing the giant to fall to the ground. David then used Goliaths own sword to defeat him completely. Seeing their champion defeated, the Philistines fled in fear, and Israel won a great victory.
