Naomi and Ruth

Naomi and Ruth

During a severe famine in Israel, Elimelech left Bethlehem with his wife Naomi and their two sons, Mahlon and Chilion. They moved to the land of Moab in search of food and safety. Sadly, Elimelech died, and later both of Naomis sons also died after marrying Moabite women named Ruth and Orpah.

When Naomi heard that the famine in Israel had ended, she decided to return to Bethlehem. She encouraged Ruth and Orpah to remain in Moab and begin new lives. Orpah stayed behind, but Ruth refused to leave Naomi. Ruth promised to stay with Naomi and worship Naomis God.

Back in Bethlehem, Naomi and Ruth were very poor. Ruth worked hard by gathering leftover grain in the fields of a wealthy relative named Boaz. Boaz noticed Ruths kindness, loyalty, and hard work, and he treated her generously.

Later, Boaz married Ruth. They had a son named Obed. Obed became the father of Jesse, and Jesse became the father of David, who would one day become the great king of Israel.
