The Promised Land
After the Israelites had wandered in the wilderness for forty years, Moses came near the land God had promised to His people. From Mount Nebo, Moses was able to see the Promised Land, but God had already told him that Joshua would lead the Israelites into it after him.
Soon afterward, Moses died, and the Israelites mourned deeply for him. God then spoke to Joshua and commanded him to lead the people across the Jordan River into the land He was giving them. Joshua felt unsure, but God encouraged him to be strong and courageous. God also told Joshua to obey His commandments and promised to be with him wherever he went.
As the Israelites entered the land, they came to the city of Jericho. The people of Jericho were afraid and shut the city gates tightly. Following God's instructions, Joshua and the Israelites captured Jericho. After that, Joshua led the people to many more victories.
Near the end of his life, Joshua reminded the Israelites to remain faithful. He urged them to obey God and worship only the Lord, the God of Israel.
