God's Message to the Pharaoh
Moses and his brother Aaron gathered the Israelites and told them about God's plan to rescue them from slavery. Afterward, they went to Pharaoh and delivered God's message. They asked him to let the Israelites leave Egypt so they could worship God and hold a festival in the wilderness.
Pharaoh refused and became angry. Instead of helping the Israelites, he made their work even harder and treated them more cruelly. Moses prayed to God, and God sent him back to Pharaoh with a warning.
God told Moses that a series of plagues would come upon Egypt if Pharaoh continued to refuse. The Nile River turned to blood, frogs filled the land, gnats and insects spread everywhere, locusts destroyed crops, and darkness covered Egypt for three days. Throughout these plagues, the Israelites were protected from harm.
Each time a plague came, Pharaoh begged Moses to ask God to stop it and promised to let the Israelites go. However, whenever the plague ended, Pharaoh changed his mind and refused to keep his promise.
