Joseph and the Pharaoh
After being sold into Egypt, Joseph became a servant in Potiphars house. Because he worked faithfully, Potiphar placed him in charge of his household. Later, Joseph was falsely accused and sent to prison. Even in prison, God helped Joseph, and he was given responsibility over the other prisoners.
Years later, Pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt, experienced troubling dreams. In one dream, seven healthy cows came out of the river, followed by seven thin cows that swallowed them. In another dream, seven healthy heads of grain were followed by seven dry heads of grain that consumed them.
No one could explain the dreams, so Pharaoh called Joseph. Joseph told Pharaoh that the dreams meant Egypt would enjoy seven years of abundance followed by seven years of famine. He advised Pharaoh to store grain during the years of plenty so the people would have food during the famine.
Pharaoh recognized that God had given Joseph wisdom and accepted his advice. This helped prepare Egypt for the difficult years ahead.
