A detective learns that all the clues in a puzzling mystery are being left by a clever crow. This story teaches children about observation, patience, and the cleverness of nature.

Detective Riley was known all over town for solving even the trickiest cases. One morning, she found a trail of shiny buttons leading to the park fountain. She thought it must be a new mystery! She followed the trail, carefully writing down each clue in her notebook. Little did she know, someone was watching her from above—a black crow with bright, curious eyes.

Every day, Detective Riley found more clues: a silver ring, a red marble, a small key. Each clue was left in strange places—on a bench, by the swings, or even on her windowsill. She started to notice that every time she picked up a clue, the same crow was nearby, cawing softly. “Is that crow following me?” she wondered, squinting up at the trees. The crow just tilted its head and flew away.

One afternoon, Riley decided to test her theory. She placed a shiny coin on the ground and hid behind a bush. Moments later, the crow swooped down, grabbed the coin, and flew off! “Aha!” Riley whispered. “So you’re the one leaving all the clues!” The crow dropped the coin and let out a loud caw, almost like it was laughing at her.

The next day, Riley left a note that said, “Hello, clever crow! Let’s be friends.” The crow brought back a blue button, placing it right on her notebook. From that day on, they met every morning—the detective and the crow. Instead of solving mysteries alone, Riley now shared her adventures with her new feathered partner. The clues didn’t stop coming, but now, every mystery began with a friendly caw.
