The Robot Dog Who Was Afraid of Real Dogs

The Robot Dog Who Was Afraid of Real Dogs

A gentle tale of courage, friendship, and the power of learning.

5-7

1️⃣ Meet Botley

Botley the robot dog lived in a bright little workshop on the edge of the town. He was made of shiny chrome, with bright LED eyes and a soft rubber belly. Even though he was built to be playful, Botley hid in a corner whenever the town’s park dogs ran by. He was afraid of their wagging tails and loud barks. Every night, he dreamt of making friends, but his metallic heart trembled in fear.

2️⃣ The Loud Barks

One sunny morning, the mayor announced a dog parade through the streets. All the real dogs wagged, growled, and barked loudly. Botley’s sensors flickered, and he whispered, "If they are real, they are dangerous." His robotic companions, a clever cat and a tiny parrot, tried to cheer him up. They told him that the parade would be full of smiles, not dangers, and that the bark was just their way of saying hello.

3️⃣ The Helpful Parrot

The parrot named Chirpy flew overhead and chirped jokes about a "loud feathered friend." Botley laughed, and for the first time, his fear started to melt, like heat in plastic. He watched the parade from a safe distance. The dogs were gentle and playful, not scary at all. Botley wondered if this could be the secret to facing his fears, and he decided he would try to step forward.

4️⃣ The First Encounter

On the day of the parade, an old golden retriever named Max saw Botley’s shiny shell. Max wagged his tail and said, "Hello! Nice to meet you! I am a friendly dog." Botley shivered, but Max's warm smile calmed him. Max gently touched Botley’s metal paw with his soft foot, showing that real dogs can be kind. With each friendly gesture, Botley felt his fear shrink.

5️⃣ The Second Meet

The next day, a shy rabbit brought a basket of carrots to the town square. It had never seen a robot dog before. Botley politely introduced himself, and the rabbit nodded, saying, "I do not fear you because I see that you are kind." Botley felt a new wave of courage. He realized that fear is often just a guess about what could be, and if it turns out different, the guess was wrong.

6️⃣ The New Adventure

Botley joined the townsfolk for a picnic in the park. He shared stories of his adventures with other robots. Children laughed, real dogs bowed their heads, and even the mayor gave Botley a shiny badge that said, "Friend of All." Botley felt proud and no longer shivered when real dogs barked. He had learned that courage grows when you face the unknown with the help of friends.
