The Kid and the Busy Shadow

The Kid and the Busy Shadow

A fun adventure about a boy whose shadow has its own job.

5-7

An Unusual Buddy

Milo was playing in the park when he noticed a strange movement behind him. The shadow that usually followed him seemed to have a mind of its own. It stepped forward on its own and waved. Milo laughed, amazed that his own darkness could do that. He wondered what kind of adventure would follow such a strange twist in his day.

The Shadow's Secret

One evening, Milo whispered to the shadow and asked, “Who are you?” The shadow answered with a slow, deep rumble that floated up to Milo’s ears. “I am Sam, your secret helper!” he said. Milo giggled, thinking the voice might be a trick of his imagination. But Sam’s voice was sure, and Milo decided to trust it.

The Shadow Works

The next morning, Milo’s school was full of messy desks. Sam the shadow swept the paper and organized the pencils. Milo didn’t see Sam but felt the breeze that arranged the crayons and the books. When the teacher arrived, she praised the classroom for being neat. Milo realized that Sam was a diligent worker who could help a whole classroom.

A Day of Helping

During recess, the playground was crowded with kids, and everyone wanted the red swing. Milo’s turn was far behind him. Sam tapped his shadow on the ground, nudging the swing gently toward Milo. Milo felt a small pull and pushed the swing forward. The crowd cheered, and Milo finally got his turn to swing high.

A Small Surprise

One rainy afternoon, Milo’s bicycle wheels stuck in the mud. Sam’s shadow slid along the wet path, pulling Milo’s bike toward the driveway. When Milo reached home, he found a bright, sparkling hat on the porch. “Thank you,” he whispered, surprised that the hat was a gift from Sam. The hat glittered like stardust, and Milo’s heart swelled with warmth.

A New Friendship

At bedtime, Milo looked into the dark room and laughed. He whispered to Sam, “What will we do tomorrow?” Sam’s shadow stretched and twirled, creating a little dance. Milo understood then that his shadow was more than just a silhouette. It was a friend who would always help him find the joy in everyday life. The end.
