A brave owl learns that darkness can be a friend.

Ollie the Owl perched high in an old oak tree. He loved watching the stars twinkle. One evening, the sky turned gray and the moon hid behind clouds. Ollie felt a shiver slide through his feathers. He wondered what lay when the lights went out.

When the sky grew dimmer, shadows curled under the branches. Ollie heard faint whispering sounds. He flapped his wings, but they made the trees creak. His heart thumped like a drum. He felt as if nothing could keep him safe.

The wise old squirrel noticed Ollie’s quivering. “Don’t worry, little bird,” she said. She offered a firefly lantern that glowed softly. He held it close, feeling a little warmth. The forest friends gathered around to make a circle of light.

The Robin sang a lullaby that sounded like a gentle wind. The Fox offered a bright glow from his tail. Together, they practiced standing in the dark with their light sources. Ollie counted to ten with each breath. The darkness began to look less scary.

When the sky was fully dark, Ollie closed his eyes and imagined the stars dancing. He felt a calmness that he had never felt before. He opened his eyes – the world looked like a glittering map. He realized the dark was not a monster. He felt proud of himself.

From that night on, Ollie’s heart beat with confidence. He greeted the night with a smile and a song. The forest animals cheered for their new brave friend. Ollie understood that facing fear is a step to growth. He lived happily ever after among the trees, watching the stars.
